The Daylesford Dharma School was established in 2009 and is the first Buddhist primary school in Australia. We are a not for profit, independent school. We practice inclusiveness and choice in education and are committed to a low fee-base in order to sustain accessibility by our local community regardless of their capacity to pay.
Founded on the philosophical principles of Buddhism, we teach children compassion, wisdom principles, interdependence and respect for all life, with a focus on community connectivity and sustainability. Our methods include: emotional learning, reflective practices, Awareness Programme, cross discipline learning, integrated curriculum, the spirit of inquiry and debate, conflict resolution training, interconnectedness with our community and environment.
Our education programme is enriched in 2012 by these projects:
• Action research project with Monash University Faculty of Education
• Leading 21st Century Schools Victoria Engage with Asia project
• Learnosity iPad Chinese language action research project
• Reggio Emilia education approach in the early years programme
• MLTAV teachers of Chinese mentoring programme
